Visual tour on the farmland

(Click on the photos to see them in a bigger format)

From a total of 200 hectares which belong to Karensminde, approx. 30 are used for the cow’s grazing during the latter part of the year (spring/summer). Its different types of grass, including clover are something which the cows enjoy.

As an ecologist you can never use artificial fertilizer nor herbicides. It’s common sense to handle the soil and the groundwater with care. Tilling the crops organically can result in produce which in many cases is not up to market standards. We have for example many thistles!  To allow certain diversity in plant life is a part of the ecological idea.

These photos show tender maize germs and flowering peas. Like other leguminous plants, such as clover peas have the ability to fixate the atmosphere nitrogen. Alternating the crops is also termed rotation of crops. The clover meadows are particularly suited for both fixating the nitrogen for the next crop and combating weed.

The farmland belonging to Karensminde is positioned in the beautiful region of Djursland. Here is a picture of a field with newly baled grass stretching out to Følle Beach.
